Our Sustainability Promise

At Holiday Inn Jesmond, Newcastle, we recognise the influence and impact that our business has on the environment and the communities in which we operate. We are committed to sustainability and to minimising our environmental footprint, while enhancing the wellbeing of our guests, employees and local communities. We are supported in this journey by our sustainability accreditation partner, Green Tourism.

Supporting Our Community

At Holiday Inn Newcastle Jesmond, we are proud to support our local community and charitable initiatives. Our team has participated in fundraising for Macmillan Support, helping to raise vital funds. We have donated charity raffle vouchers to organisations such as Dragonfly Cancer Trust, Kenton Hall Care Home, and Wallsend Girls’ Football Team. Additionally, we actively support the Newcastle United Foundation, helping vulnerable children in the local area.

At Christmas, we contribute to The People’s Kitchen by providing food parcels for those in need. Demonstrating our commitment to environmental responsibility, we partnered with Newcastle City Council for a hotel-led litter pick on 10th January 2025, bringing our team together to help keep our local area clean.

Environmental Initiatives

We are dedicated to sustainability and reducing our environmental impact through the IHG Green Engage system, which we monitor continuously to track energy consumption and implement improvements. Our Green slides are displayed in reception and regularly updated to keep guests informed about our eco-friendly initiatives.

To further our commitment, our team has used the WWF carbon footprint calculator to better understand individual environmental impact, while carbon monitoring from Veolia ensures accurate tracking of our emissions. As part of The Cairn Group’s wider sustainability strategy, we follow a Carbon Management Policy, outlining our proactive steps to reduce carbon emissions and address climate change across our properties and operations.

Our Team

We are committed to creating a safe, healthy, and sustainable workplace for all team members. Our staff play an active role in minimising our environmental impact, with regular sustainability training and the support of an on-site Sustainability Champion. We closely monitor business and staff travel, encouraging public transport and car-sharing wherever possible to reduce emissions.

To further our commitment to sustainability, we have incorporated EV vehicles into our operations. Additionally, we track energy and activity targets, reporting progress monthly to our head office, ensuring continuous improvement in our environmental initiatives.

Guest Support

We actively encourage guests to use sustainable transport options, particularly given our close proximity to Jesmond Metro Station, which provides an ideal way to travel into Newcastle City Centre. Bus timetables are readily available to help guests plan their journeys with ease.

Additionally, we proudly display our Green Tourism initiatives throughout the venue, showcasing our commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability.
